a technological feat with just a thickness for USB type-C

In August this year, the Chinese phone maker launched the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 in its country. Now we had the opportunity to try the foldable in the same offices of the brand here in Europe. A folding mobile which, thanks to its thickness, becomes a technological feat.

The USB type-C connection marks the thickness of the mobile

The best example to follow in these foldable phones with this form factor is the same Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, but unlike it, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 reduces the thickness so much which is almost limited by the dimensions of the same USB Type-C connector.

Having the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 in hand, one realizes that they have been able to deliver that much sought after experience in a foldable of this type. That is to say, it is not a folding as if it were two cell phones glued together, but rather it would be like a year and a halftherefore having held it well in our hands provokes another type of experience.

It is true that Xiaomi has chosen to reduce its thickness, but in return water and dust resistance is ahead and who is able to bend it at any angle. A bet opposite to that of Samsung which allows these two experiences.

MIX stands for innovation

Apart from the thickness, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 is characterized by its collaboration with Leica for each of the three cameras that mounts on the back. In other words, Leica optimization, with Leica Authentic Look and Leica Vibrant Look, is present in each of the cameras.

Another detail of this model of the MIX series is its in-screen fingerprint sensor and its 1,000 nits on the internal screen that make it the best foldable in this regard.

We also liked that Xiaomi include a blanket which allows you to leave the foldable on a surface in order to enjoy series or films thanks to its screens.

Your most important specs

The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 is characterized by its Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip, a Internal 8.02-inch Eco2 OLED displaya 6.56″ external, and a 4,500 mAh battery with 65W fast charge.

This last detail they place it well above of what Samsung has achieved with its Galaxy Fold4, so if you want to charge it very quickly, Xiaomi’s solution is ideal.

The cameras also have their own thanks to the main 50 Mpx, an ultra wide angle and a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. The fact that Leica is present means that the photos taken by this Xiaomi will produce very good sensations.

MIUI fold 13

Another detail to highlight is MIUI Fold 13, a customized version for this type of folding mobile, although it remains on Android 12.

Hemos podido probar parte de esta capa personalizada y cierto es que está lo suficientemente bien organizada para que cada elemento de cualquier aplicación, como sucede con la pantalla de inicio o las notificaciones, ocupe su espacio para generar una agradable experiencia visual.

La pantalla de ajustes es el máximo ejemplo, ya que en un lado tenemos el panel con todas las secciones, mientras en el otro lateral los espacios utilizados por los diferentes ajustes para dar una gran sensación a todos los niveles.

Las notificaciones se dejan caer desde el lazo izquierdo de la pantalla cuando se realiza el gesto hacia abajo, y desde el lado derecho el panel a los accesos más importantes del teléfono como son las conexiones y más.

A primeras, Xiaomi ha sabido trabajar y aprovechar la gran amplitud del Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 con MIUI Fold 13 para que todos los elementos de la interfaz estén en su sitio.

Primeras impresiones, con un pero

Hay que decir que el Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 no llegará a España, aunque se espera que el próximo modelo, el Fold 3, sí que aterrice por estos lares para así enfrentarse a Samsung en territorio español. La verdad que tenemos ganas de que esto suceda.

Aquí Xiaomi ha jugado sus cartas para apostar abiertamente por traer un plegable tipo Fold que tenga el mínimo grosor posible. Lo ha conseguido, aunque como hemos mencionado, se lleva por delante dos características que sí posee la solución de la marca coreana.

En dos colores, como es el color dorado y el negro, es el primero el que más nos ha impactado por su belleza y elegancia. Un plegable que tiene mucho que decir y que esperemos que en algún momento el fabricante de teléfonos chino traiga a España el siguiente modelo ya en 2023 o 2024.

Lo que queda bien claro es que Xiaomi está apostando muy fuerte por los plegables y se va a convertir en una de las alternativas a los plegables de Samsung. Éste nos ha dejado encantados y mire por donde se le mire es un móvil cautivador, elegante y con la tecnología necesaria para llevar a otro nivel la experiencia con un teléfono.

Para terminar, con un precio de 1.300 dollars al cambio, a bien seguro que Samsung estaría poniéndose nervioso si llegase a España, de momento solamente queda esperar y armarse de paciencia.
