At the end of the summer we analyzed what, for now, is the best Samsung watch, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, a model that has no predecessor and is called to be the option recommended for the more adventurous or the more athletic. But not everyone is like that, which is why Samsung also presented the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, a watch with slightly more adjusted features, especially in terms of autonomy, but which is also considerably cheaper.

Eye-catching design
I think it’s the watch, of all the ones I’ve analyzed in my life, that has caught people’s attention the most. Few people told me how good it looks, and Samsung has really polished up the already more than decent look of the Watch 4.
The crown seems to fit into the bracelet without anchoring elements, in a design that other brands later copied.
On the side we have two buttons, without a rotating crown, since the display frame is a haptic frame.
Adequate power, but sometimes limps
The Exynos processor in this watch gives us enough power for what we want to do with the watch, but sometimes we’ve seen that the interface isn’t as fast or smooth as we’d like.
It’s not a serious issue, but considering this is a high-end watch and many other watches don’t suffer from this lag at times, we think Samsung should improve on this.
A fun screen
Samsung displays are some of the best around, and you can see that on watches like this.
The colors, the brightness or the tactile response are up to what the most demanding demand, and the only downside is that the rotating bezel is not physical, as was the case in the models with Tizen.
Autonomy is better than expected, without shining
Knowing that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro gave us three days of battery life, we knew this model was not going to measure up. It’s normal, it’s smaller and, above all, much less thick.
We were expecting around 24 hours of total use, but our experience was a bit better. It does not reach two days, but on some occasions we have touched this figure. Of course, if you use the sport and GPS options, forget about trying to reach 24 hours.
This is one of the disadvantages of this type of watch, the price to pay to have a complete operating system.
Wear OS with watch UI
Samsung is currently Google’s priority watch partner. It is the first brand to release Wear OS 3 and the one with the most advanced operating system. Plus, the clock interface has some great tweaks by Samsung, which don’t feel bad.
Of course, we don’t have the Google Assistant available as standard, which is very shocking considering who is developing the operating system. However, the reality is that we have it, it’s just that it’s a bit hidden.
We need to go to the Play Store, go to the My Apps section, and update the Assistant app there. When we do, we only have to open and configure it from the phone, as the Wear OS application will indicate.
Conclusion: it’s more and more worth it
Considering how little competition Samsung has in watches with Wear OS, it’s striking how the price of products in this category are dropping. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 went on sale in August at a starting price of 300 and 330 dollars depending on whether you wanted the 40mm or 44mm version.
Currently we can buy them respectively for 257 and 269 dollars in stores like Amazon, which makes them increasingly interesting.
