Mobile accessibility services are essential for people with some type of disability. Android has them, but has always been behind Apple in this regard; especially here in Europe where the latter was able to collaborate with ONCE himself. I want now improve accessibility from the Play Store with app labels.
A11y Tags in Google Play Store
A11 there you are English abbreviation for accessibility and is used to name the tags of this type of function that are now present in the Google store.
In the World Accessibility Awareness Day, the capital G has been advanced to make the Google Play Store more accessible with A11y tags. These will allow you to search for apps dedicated to accessibility, in order to find alternatives to the tools that Android already includes.
These labels will appear under the section about this app in the app’s listing in the play store and will describe the main purpose of the app. Just as they will show the type of audience they are targeting.
It’s not the same as a person with visual and auditory impairment and for this these labels will have a great value in order to make the Android store more accessible. Labels such as motor or hearing aid will work for this purpose.
It’s the A11y Tag List which adds Google to the Play Store:
- Compatible with screen readers.
- Visual aid.
- Hearing aid.
- learning disability
- helps with motor skills.
- Accessible communication.
Via XDA, these tags will be applied for the following categories such as those dedicated to a special group of users or those of a certain category that are accessible. The first for the hearing impaired and the second for those who need to magnify areas of the screen, like the Android Magnifier itself.
These labels can be clicked to so open a list of apps that have likewise, it is therefore an excellent welcome to give that special point to accessibility in Android.
