Now that iOS 17.2 is out, all the previously mentioned iOS 17 features that we don’t have yet will be arriving in 2024. Apply may start testing the iOS 17.3 beta any minute now, but the release real will certainly not arrive before the new one. year.
That means two key features – Apple Music and AirPlay collaborative playlists in select hotels – won’t be here in time for the peak holiday travel season.
To that end, Apple has officially updated its iOS 17 site with a warning that the Hotel AirPlay experience “will be available in an update in 2024.” While we already knew this was true given that major iOS 17 releases for the year are complete and Hotel AirPlay isn’t here, it’s nice to see official confirmation.
Apple hasn’t updated the Apple Music collaborative playlists part of the site to say the same thing, perhaps because it was part of the iOS 17.2 beta until the very latest version, and the company expected it to be released in 2023. There is no official reason why this feature was removed, but it is expected that it will need more protections against spam and abuse.
When AirPlay for Hotel Rooms launches, it will initially only be available in select hotels. It will probably be a long time before you can reliably expect most hotels you stay in to have AirPlay connectivity.
