The new AirPods 4 hide a small capacitive button
Just yesterday we talked about how the new camera control button available on all models of the iPhone 16 range works, and now we’re going to take a look at another button that Apple has implemented in its AirPods 4. It’s called a secret capacitive button intended for pairing and resetting.
Normally, AirPods cases have always had a physical button on the back to start pairing with an iPhone. But now, instead of a physical button, with the AirPods 4, Apple has decided to incorporate a capacitive button.

The AirPods 4 charging case has a pretty interesting redesign. Apple has created the smallest AirPods case ever and, in addition, it has integrated a touch button on the front.
When you open the AirPods 4 charging case and the green LED indicatorAirPods 4 users can Double-tap the faceplate to start pairing headphones with your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
This AirPods 4 button wasn’t mentioned when the product was announced at the September special event. It’s such a secret button that it was only recently discovered, by Japanese blog Macotakara.
Another function of this new AirPods 4 button, as we previously indicated, is to Hold the button or press it three times in a row to initiate a restore to their factory values.
The AirPods 4 charging case has a small LED indicator to show its status, just like other AirPods. However, unlike other charging cases, the AirPods 4 status indicator is more discreet. The small dot disappears completely when the charging case is closed. When you open the case, the indicator reappears and lights up.
Apple’s AirPods 4 will hit the market in two versions. One cheaper and one with more advanced technical specifications. The most advanced version of the AirPods 4 integrates Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Transparency Mode, Voice Isolation, Personalized Spatial Audio, and Adaptive Audio.
On the other hand, Apple has integrated into its AirPods 4 a pressure-sensitive button and a revolutionary function that allows users to interact with Siri via head gestures to answer “yes” or “no” to the virtual assistant’s questions.
The charging case includes a small speaker and now gives the AirPods 4 a full battery life of 30 hours of audio playback. Many new features for AirPods 4 which have been redesigned and now have a new secret button for pairing with other devices.
The AirPods 4 are now available for pre-order and will officially launch on September 20. The cheapest version costs 149 dollars while the option with active noise cancellation is priced at 199 dollars.
