With each iOS update, Apple includes more accessibility options, and iOS 15 has gone in the same direction. As announced weeks before WWDC 21 and demonstrated on the day of the event, iOS 15 includes several accessibility features that have been tested in the available beta version of the operating system. And the general public expects to take advantage of it this fall.
Unlike some features that require a newer iPhone, all What’s new with accessibility will be available to all users on iOS 15, from iPhone 6s to iPhone 12 Pro Max.
All the accessibility features of iOS 15
Navigating pictures with VoiceOver: This characteristic describes people, objects, texts and tables in pictures in more detail using VoiceOver. It also allows for detailed visualization of nutrition labels and receipts values intelligently in a logical order. And more advanced options such as discovering a person’s position in relation to other objects in the images.
Descriptions of voice images in numbering: The marking allows the user add descriptions of images that VoiceOver can read. Image descriptions persist even when shared and can be read in a variety of compatible apps on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Sound actions to control buttons: This accessibility feature allows control iPhone with simple mouth sounds, like a click, pop, or sound, without the need for physical buttons, switches, or complex verbal commands.
Background sounds: The background sounds reproduce a balanced background noise, light or dark, the ocean, the rain and a continuous background noise for mask unwanted ambient or external noise and help the user concentrate, remain calm or rest.
Magnifier application: As of iOS 15, Magnifier finally becomes a default app on iOS, so you can use your iPhone as a magnifying glass to zoom in on objects.
Memoji accessibility: Memoji represents more of your looks and style with new customizations including oxygen tubes, cochlear implants and a soft helmet.
Configuration by application: With allowed actions such as bolding, enlarging text, increasing contrast, inverting colors, adding color filters, iOS provides the ability to customize screen size and text settings on an app-by-app basis.
Import audiogramas: Import paper or PDF audiograms into settings and quickly customize headphone settings to amplify quiet sounds and adjust certain frequencies based on your hearing test results.
New voice control languages: voice control adds new language options including Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, French and German. These languages use Siri’s voice recognition technology for incredible accuracy when speaking your commands.
