The developers are in luck and it looks like there are no holidays in Cupertino. Yesterday was beta day and new betas for all operating systems showcased at WWDC22 were released. This is beta 5 and it appears like this two weeks after the previous version. Let’s start analyzing what are the main new features of beta 5 of iOS 16 that have taken place so far. Many of them unexpected.
Battery percentage arrives (5 years later) in beta 5 of iOS 16
This is the star novelty of the beta 5 of iOS 16. After the arrival of the iPhone X, Apple has removed the battery percentage from the status bar. Five years later, it reintroduces that important number inside the battery icon in the status bar in iOS 16 beta 5. It’s an option that’s been toggled on or off since the battery settings. Without a doubt, although unexpected, it is one of the most important novelties of this update.
However, not all is gold that shines and Apple has limited the appearance of the percentage in some iPhones. iPhones compatible with the option are iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone X and iPhone XS. Therefore, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 11 and iPhone XR are left out.
New sounds in the Search app
If we think of a sound related to the search application, the beep that we always heard when we lost our iPhone always comes to mind. In beta 5 of iOS 16 the sound has been replaced by another. It is a slightly louder sound.
You can listen to the new audio in the video extracted from 9to5mac, which extracted the audio and posted it on its official website. In fact, this new sound This is also the sound the iPhone plays when we search for it from the Apple Watch Control Center.

New Features in iOS 16 Screenshots
A new feature comes from screenshots in this beta 5 of iOS 16. Until now, when we took a screenshot, we could access it to edit it. Once the editing was done, we could press “Done” and a series of options would appear, among which Delete, Save to files, Save to photos, etc. However, in the new version of iOS 16 for developers, the function is added “Copy and Delete”.
This way we can temporarily copy the screenshot to the clipboard and delete it from the system. An additional option added to iOS 16 screenshot settings.
Other less important news
The fifth beta version also includes a new reading widget on the home screen. This new widget is different from the one included in the third beta, which was a full-screen render. What is introduced in this beta 5 is a mini player that does not take up much space and displays all the information needed to control playback from the home screen.
Settings have also been changed from the home screen, such as removing the option Zoom in perspective which allowed to format the wallpaper. Therefore, only the Depth option is currently available in these settings.
On the other hand, a new place has been added to indicate the codecs compatible with a certain song, such as Loseless or Dolby Atmos. Now they appear next to the genre of the song, in small size and with the logo of the codec itself.
Finally, the name given to the emergency call when you press the power button and the volume button for a few seconds has been changed. Now it’s just an emergency call.
