If there is an essential application when I travel by car, it is Waze: I prefer it to Google Maps (the official Android application) both in its app version and integrated into Android Auto. Waze has much more detail than adding the destination, some limitations like avoiding tolls or warning you of speed cameras… in fact, beyond the tips, Waze hides a series of secret codes capable of modifying the application from bottom to top.
Some are very useful and others may affect how it works, so it’s better to make sure before typing them. How to enter codes in Waze?
Waze Codes
You can enter these codes at your convenience or simply to experiment:
- 2##2to enter or exit debug mode, i.e. debugger mode.
- ##@cctts, one of the most interesting: cleans the TTS cache, ideal if the speech synthesis function does not work well. So, it will clear this cache and force the download from the server to have the latest version available.
- dbg@ttsEnables or disables debug mode for the text-to-speech feature.
- ##@ttsenable or disable the text-to-speech function (optional, do it from the app in ‘Settings’ > ‘Voice and sound’)
- ##@asrenable or disable voice commands (something you can also do from settings)
- ##@usernameshow your username in a pop-up window (if you are a guest, name assigned randomly)
- ##@engchange the language to English (I tried typing “spa” and it gave me a connection error)
- ##@hebchange the language to Hebrew (Waze is from Israel)
- ##@restorefav, reset your favorite places. While trying it, I received an error that my device is not connected to the Internet.
- ##@coorddisplays (or stops displaying) the GPS coordinates of your location
- ##@debuglangreplaces translated strings such as “Home” or “Work” with [OK]
- ##@debugspeeddisplays the section speed limit regardless of the current speed (only works if you have the speed limit enabled)
- ##@rawgpsdisplays an additional icon with the current position (in yellow)
- ##@trafficdisplays traffic lines on the route
Waze codes use at your own risk
These codes should be used with caution due to the changes they produce, for example if you have a problem you go to Waze support and their team will suggest one for you.
- ##@heif the phone uses the wrong server, this code allows you to change it (applicable in Israel)
- ##@UNITED STATESif the phone uses the wrong server, this code allows you to change it (applicable in the USA)
- ##@otherif the phone uses the wrong server, this code allows you to change it (applicable to the rest of the world).
- ##@reset the appto reset the app and leave it as newly installed: delete favorites, account information… I tried it and had to log in again.
