Like every year, Amazfit introduced its new family of high-end watches, the Amazfit GTR 4 and GTS 4. Unlike last year, here we don’t see a big leap in features, although there are novelties. The company wanted to focus on improving the experience and offering a better design, closer to that of traditional watches, at least in the case of the GTR.

A classic design that looks great
Amazfit GTR 3 and Amazfit GTR 4
Last year, Amazfit ventured into the GTR 3 with a very minimalist design that wasn’t ugly at all, but tried to move away from classic watches. This time we see how the GTR 4 does not follow this line. It retains the two physical buttons and the rotating crown, but now it’s a little bigger, it has more presence.
Although it is very light, thanks to the aluminum construction, it visually gives the impression of being a heavy watch, due to the shape of the case and the presence of a circular serigraphy around the screen, like chronographs.

Both buttons now have a red accent, something eye-catching that many will like and not so many others. Of course, on a daily basis this is not appreciated, because of the position of the buttons.
The crown responds very well, and the straps can be changed to any standard 22mm strap. In fact, the unit they lent me has the black silicone strap, and I think that takes a lot of the packaging off of the watch, so I put on the vegan leather strap that I had on the much sleeker Amazfit GTR 3. Some may not like the brown-black combination, but we know it can be customized, so that’s no problem.
Better GPS, better measurement
For better and for worse, the GTR 4 is nearly identical to the GTR 3 in function. Of course, Amazfit wanted to correct some of the flaws of its predecessor, especially in the precision of the GPS, this being one of the watches with the best hardware in this regard, still in its price range.
The loudspeaker and microphone for calls are maintained and we can integrate loyalty cards into a new application, but not bank cards since we still don’t have NFC. If this type of watch had a paid function, the most advanced watches would have a serious problem.
As we said, the GPS is more precise, but it is something that we must configure in the settings, since it uses more battery. By default it comes in the medium configuration, but we can change it.
Finally, highlight the presence of Wi-Fi to be able to play songs, podcasts or audio notes to connect bluetooth headphones and go for a walk or play sports without the clock.
A great screen
The screen of the Amazfit GTR 4 is what one would expect from such a watch. It has a high resolution of 466 x 466 dpi, which results in a density of 326 with a diagonal of 1.43 inches.
The technology is AMOLED; And outdoors, it looks great thanks to a peak brightness of 600 nits. In addition, this brightness is automatic and has always worked perfectly, we never had to adjust it manually.
Almost two weeks of autonomy
The battery is one of the advantages of Amazfit watches. In larger ones, like this, the company claims 14 days of battery life, depending on usage. We have been with him for a few weeks and he advised that we should charge the watch after 13 days. Nothing bad.
Of course, if we had used the GPS more, we should have plugged it into the charger much sooner.
The magnetic charger with USB A cable is maintained, so it could not be recharged on a Qi charger or on a mobile phone with reversible charging.
Zepp OS is getting better and better
The software of Amazfit watches made a considerable leap last year, with Zepp OS 2, and now we see how much the operation has been refined, we no longer have problems with fluidity or the need to restart the watch from from time to time.
Amazfit honed what it already had, before playing around with new features. Despite this, we can customize the list of applications, in the form of a list or a hexagon and customize the order by pressing and holding your finger on it and dragging it.
