Amazon announced Matter Casting at CES 2024 as a new content streaming standard, currently limited to Echo Show devices
CES 2024 is already underway in Las Vegas like every start of the year during which the main technological brands, recognized and independent, present advances, prototypes and new products intended for consumption. Amazon today announced Matter Casting, a kind of AirPlay in practical terms, for its devices.

For now this function is limited to transmitting in the Prime Video app to Echo Show devices. It is proposed to come to Fire TV soon and work on more streaming services such as Pluto TV, Sling TV, Starz, Plex, among others.

They also have the option to leverage this feature on their own TVs and Fire Stick devices. Amazon has tried to appeal to home automation users and those who are not very familiar with its wide range of home devices.
Currently, AirPlay is more competitive although it is still a “closed” environment when working with original Apple devices. From an iPhone, iPad or Mac you can send the screen to an Apple TV, Mac and until recently some compatible devices such as Samsung and LG smart TVs. Google has Chromecast and the feature called Google Cast. Will Amazon Matter Casting be better?
The Matter standard is still not supported
Apple and Google worked with Amazon on Mattera video transmission standard in which TV accessories will be able to work together seamlessly. The intention is that it does not depend on an exclusive platform but have one of these devices.
There are 17 total Echo devices compatible with Matter
Is an effort to get iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Android devices to send content to Amazon devices. This benefits everyone and converges towards the interoperability that Amazon intends to take to the next level in terms of content consumption.
Will Matter have the expected reach? In the meantime, we will see how long it will take to launch compatibility with Fire TV, this is the main gateway for Matter to be considered a viable alternative in place of AirPlay or Google Cast.
