What is the most important thing to properly enjoy our favorite games? If we have a good graphics card, we might be interested in increasing the quality of the graphics, or increasing the resolution to obtain image quality suitable for the latest graphics engines.
On the other hand, more and more gamers prefer to use this power to enjoy high frame rates; especially if they have a monitor capable of displaying high refresh rates. In these cases, we are looking for greater fluidity in movements which makes the game more realistic, and above all, greater ability to react to what is happening on the screen.
However, even if we increase the frame rate to the maximum possible, we will still have a problem to solve: the “lag”, or latency, which occurs between clicking the mouse and seeing a reaction on the screen. For example, in online games, many players are able to notice the latency that occurs between clicking the mouse and firing the gun, to the point that it can cause them to lose the game.
Today, AMD introduced technology that aims to solve this problem. It’s called Radeon Anti-Lag 2, and the first supported game is Counter-Strike 2; the company claims to be able to obtain smoother and more responsive gameplay
According to AMD tests, this technology achieves 37% average latency reduction; so this should be essential for gamers for whom this “lag” or latency is a big issue. This is obviously AMD’s own technology, and the results were measured on Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards and Ryzen 8000 G processors. Nvidia has its own solution to this problem, called Nvidia Reflex.
As its name suggests, Radeon Anti-Lag 2 is the second version of this technology; but it’s completely different, since it has to be implemented in each game, rather than in the “drivers”. The downside is that this means that only suitable games will be able to take advantage of this technology, although AMD hopes it will be available in more titles ‘soon’. This is a necessary sacrifice, since the first version of Anti-Lag implemented in Radeon drivers caused some problems, since it was detected as a “cheat” by some games, something that is completely avoided with this new implementation .
