The lack of Android developers within Kodi has revealed a problem for anyone using the app downloaded from the Google Play Store: Kodi 19.4 It is not available in the Android store because it cannot adapt the application to Google’s requirements.. For this reason, to update it is essential to download the APK.
With each new version of Android distributed on Google devices, it includes new features visible to the user, new ways to interact with phone software and hardware through APIs and requirements for developers: Google forces them to keep their apps up to date. For this reason, each time a developer uploads a new version to Google Play, they must adapt it to a minimum version of the Android API; a task that makes software renewal more difficult.
Kodi has no Android developers to meet Google’s requirements
Currently, any developer who wants to upload a new application to Google Play or who wants to update software already uploaded to the store must meet the minimum API level 30, which corresponds to Android 11. That is, all new and updated apps must be compatible with said version of Android, 11. Kodi 19.4 cannot meet this requirement.
just like Kodi developers have reportedcurrently cannot meet the minimum system requirements of Google Play, as They don’t have an Android developer to keep this version compatible with Android 11. Specifically, Kodi 19.4 must respect Google’s limitation on access to all files, the “MANAGEEXTERNALSTORAGE”. This restriction is enforced via API level 30.
Due to the lack of an Android developer who can keep Kodi up to date as per Google Play requirements, Kodi 19.4 can only be downloaded as APK from the developer website. And this will continue to happen with future updates until someone does not renew the repository code. Since Kodi is open source, the Git Hub is accessible to those who have sufficient knowledge of Android and wish to contribute to this great Open Source project.
If you have Kodi on your Android phone or tablet, or if you enjoy this excellent media player on your Android TV, you have no choice but to install the update via the APK that you can download from the Kodi page. And you’ll need to do the same for updates beyond the current 19.4 release; at least until the code is suitable for the needs of Google Play. Version 19.3 will remain in the store.
