Today the first major update for Android 13 Beta users was released, known as Android 13 QPR1 Beta, or ‘Quarterly version of the platform‘. In other words, a good handful of new features and bug fixes that are thus integrated into the operating system, some soon and some later. And as part of them it seems that a noise cancellation system for calls is coming.
These systems are not strange in mobile phones, although they seem more typical of advanced profile earphones. Google Meet itself, the company’s video calling app, already incorporates such a system to improve call quality. And this system receives in Android 13 the name of ‘Clear Calling’is already integrated in the first update.
Clearer calls under mobile networks
The feature, as they say, is called ‘Clear Calling’ and is coming aboard the QPR1 beta of Android 13. is included in the code but is currently not enabled. In order to get an idea of what it looks like, as far as its configuration goes, you have to tinker with the system code. something you have already done Mishaal Rahman.
The feature, once fully developed and visible in the operating system, will be included in the sound section of the system. There we will find an option called ‘Clear Calling’, or ‘Clear Call’, and can be turned on or off at will. Apparently, at least in this first quarterly beta, it arrives disabled, although the code is hidden from the system and users.

It seems, however, that while it improves call quality by removing ambient sounds, Google has no interest in it also working with calls over WiFi. This ‘Clear Calling’ will initially be limited for calls on mobile networks. And if all goes as expected, it will use the sound enhancement algorithm that Google Meet already uses.
It is possible that this version seems already activated for the next QPR2 of Android 13, and even that Google decides to include it on board Google Play services and that it is distributed to older versions of the system. We will have to wait to see what will happen, but everything indicates that calls on Android will see their quality improve. We’ll see how far.
