The WWDC may be on our doors, but Apple is already looking at 2026. And it will be a big year – with a folding phone and Macbooks OLED, Apple also plans to launch a brand new laptop powered by Apple Intelligence.
Apple plans to get out of smart glasses in the second half of 2026, according to a new report by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. The glasses will be similar to the Ray-Ban meta-lunes which have an integrated camera to take photos, take a video and analyze images, open speakers and a microphone for voice commands.
Gurman declares that glasses will be similar to the Ray-Ban metas but “better manufactured”. He will also be able to “manage tasks such as telephone calls, musical reading, live translations and rotating instructions”. He also said that “large amounts of prototypes” will be ready at the end of this year. Finally, the glasses would support augmented reality, where the digital content is superimposed on what the user sees, but these features are “for years”.
The report comes one day after Openai announced a major case to acquire a start -up company of the AI established by Jony IVE, the former Apple design chief, who currently heads the LOVEFROM design company. The agreement was concluded to provide open AI -based products, which would compete Apple. Google has also announced its intention to deliver gem -based intelligent glasses.
However, Gurman reports that if Apple’s smart glasses will rely on AI features, people within Apple are concerned that company mismanagement in AI development will hinder the ability to develop the product. Apple's visual intelligence, introduced with iOS 18.2, can provide information based on a visual examination of what is seen via an iPhone camera, but it relies strongly on Chatgpt. Apple will want to be able to use its own AI technology instead for smart glasses, so a reworked Siri must come first.
Gurman also pointed out that Apple had deleted plans to equip the Apple Watch with cameras. The plan was to use the camera for AI -based features. Apple would continue with the development of AirPods equipped with cameras.
