We’re just months away from the launch of the iPhone 16, the first iPhone designed with Apple Intelligence in mind, but the latest rumors suggest it won’t be the phone to buy, but the next one.
We’ve already heard rumors that the iPhone 17 will be a huge upgrade, and now a reputable leaker is offering c onfirmation. According to Ice Universe on Weibo, Apple will indeed be overhauling the lineup next year, including ditching the “Plus” model for a new flagship “Slim” model. Here’s what the lineup will look like next year:
- iPhone 17:6.27-inch LTPO display, A19/8GB ($799)
- iPhone 17 Pro:6.27-inch LTPO display, A19 Pro/12GB ($1,099)
- iPhone 17 Pro Max:6.86-inch LTPO display, A19 Pro/12GB ($1,199)
- iPhone 17 “Slim”:6.65-inch LTPO display, A19/8GB ($1,299)
There are a few things to take away from this simple list. First, the screen sizes are larger than the iPhone 15, which supports rumors that Apple is increasing the screens on the iPhone 16. The iPhone 17 Slim here has a similar screen to the iPhone 15 Plus and Pro Max and a bit smaller than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Additionally, all four models listed here feature LTPO displays, meaning non-Pro models will get always-on displays and ProMotion for the first time. ProMotion’s high refresh rates have been one of the key differentiators between Apple’s pro and non-pro devices, so this would represent a major change.
Above all, the lineup represents a major strategic shift, with just one sub-$999 model and three premium models. The Slim model is said to start at $1,299 with entry-level components (A19 processor, 8GB of RAM), so the focus will likely be on design, which could feature a much slimmer camera cutout, a thinner body, and thinner bezels.
