Remember the announcement of the iPhone 16 where Bella Ramsey asked her phone to remind him of the name of the person with whom he had a meeting a few months ago? You probably won't be able to do it before the iPhone 17.
Friday, Apple confirmed (via Daring Fireball) that the new personalized Siri which was originally to arrive in iOS 18.4, then pushed back to iOS 18.5, will only arrive during the coming year. With WWDC a few months old, it seems likely that the Siri revamped is delayed until cycle IOS 19, and probably in an update in 2026.
According to Apple's Declaration, the main features are awareness of the screen, personal context and application intentions, three of the most expected features of Apple Intelligence. Awareness of the screen allows Siri to see and understand what is on your screen so you can ask him to do something like “add this person to my contacts”, while the personal context, as the Ramsay announces above, allows Siri to use his knowledge of messages, events and other personal information on your device to help him give you information.
But application intentions are probably the most disappointing functionality that will miss the deadline. The functionality will allow you to act on various applications with Siri, which users have been wanting for years. For example, Siri could recover flight information from a third -party application and send it to a friend with a single order.
Apple Intelligence had a bumpy deployment. None of the features were available when iOS 18 arrived in September, and they have been slowly updated since. Apple has temporarily disabled its news summary function earlier this year after a series of erroneous alerts, and also deleted the sketch option of the image generation. These SIRI features have always been promised to make an update of iOS 18, even during the announcement for the first time at WWDC, but that did not prevent them from performing announcements for the iPhone 16 which included features. Now they will not be available before at least the moment when the iPhone 17 is on the shelves.
There is a reason why the delay was announced quietly and a Friday following a week of announcements – it is an embarrassing admission of the distance behind Apple on the AI. Mark Gurman de Bloomberg reported earlier this week than the “conversational” rival based on Siri in Chatgpt and Gemini will not arrive before 2027. With this new delay, it is likely that Apple will catch up with Google, Samsung and Openai for the coming years.
