Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed his hatred for Apple hundreds of times. While Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, never talks about Meta. However, when it comes to hiring a team member from the other company, there is no difference. Thus, it was recently confirmed that Apple had hired a former Facebook executive for one of its most ambitious projects.
Since his Power On column, Mark Gurman has taken it upon himself to share the news, announcing that Timothy Campos will lead Apple’s technology and information systems department. This team is responsible for Apple’s website, customer support, and online services infrastructure. Because of its importance, Apple internally refers to this department as “central”.
Timothy Campos will replace Mary Demby, who after thirty years of service will retire from the company with a bit of an apple. According to the LinkedLn profile, Campos’ experience includes holding a similar position at Facebook between 2010 and 2016. He also worked with IS&T at KLA Corp., a semiconductor company. More recently, he co-founded a “Woven” calendar platform, which was later acquired by Slack and then Salesforce.
This new signing from Apple is particularly significant because it comes at a time when the company is losing some of its top executives. For example, Apple’s current head of industrial design, Evans Hankey, will leave the company in 2023.
Although on the other hand, and like many companies in the technology sector today, it will stop most hiring outside of research and development and other key areas for the company. And instead, you’ll still be hiring, but at a slower pace.
Unfortunately, the contractions aren’t the only thing that’s diminished. Apple shares are down 24% in 2022, though that’s a better performance than many of its tech peers. The Nasdaq Composite Index is down 34% and companies like Meta and Twitter Inc. laid off thousands of workers as sales slowed.
