Apple is working on new (and different) external monitors

In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman comments on a new rumor in which he explains that Apple would be working on a new external display option for Mac and that it would have an important novelty: it It will serve as a control screen for your Smart Home when inactive.

But not only that, Apple is also reportedly working on other monitor options

probably the expected and direct successors of the Pro Display XDR and the Apple Studio Display.

The smart screen that points to our Smart Homes would work using an iOS device chip, something that wouldn’t surprise us too much since the Studio Display works the same way (with an internal A13 chip). However, currently in the Studio Display, software intelligence only applies to the camera and speaker systemwith features like Center Stage and Spatial Audio.

With these new monitors, being able to function as a smart home device in low-power mode is a much more ambitious and interesting question for Apple. And maybe we have already had tests of this system without realizing it. The iOS 17 interface and its StandBy mode could be the start of this whole operation

on other screens and possible new Apple devices. You already know that before launching a new technology or a new product, Apple “tests” its current products to see the possible adaptation that they could have in the future.

However, let us not hope in the short term, Gurman doesn’t expect the new smart monitor to go on sale until next year “at the earliest” thus other possible products would not see the light of day in the short-medium term.
