Apple Music shared playlists won’t arrive until 2024

Collaborative playlists or Apple Music collaborative playlists

iOS 17.2 is already with us and, as expected, Apple Music shared lists are not available. Everything that revolves around this new function becomes something taboo for Apple and after announcing the function at WWDC and a few weeks later postponing its launch, an attempt was made to implement shared playlists in the first beta versions of iOS 17.2. However, in the fourth beta it was completely removed and now Apple assures that Apple Music shared playlists will arrive with an update in 2024. Will they be right or will there be no choice but to wait for iOS 18?

No shared Apple Music playlists in iOS 17.2

Invite your friends to join your playlist and everyone can add, rearrange and delete songs. In Now Playing, you can use emoji to react to chosen songs.

Shared playlists don’t have much mystery other than what their name suggests. It’s an Apple Music feature which allows you to work on a playlist with other users who also have a subscription to the service. This is already available on other services like Spotify. However, Apple announced the arrival of these lists during WWDC23 with the arrival of iOS 17.

What happened? That in the initial betas we saw no trace of the function nor during the official launch in September. But we all had our sights set on iOS 17.1…and we failed again. However, everything changed with the first betas of iOS 17.2 which included shared playlists on Apple Music for the first time until the feature was removed in the fourth beta and finally in the final release.

Internal iOS development sources assure that the launch was canceled due to security and stability issues with the function. This could be because the playlists are accessible via a link and it is the user himself who decides who can start adding songs. It’s likely that Apple wants to change the way shared playlists are accessed or managed. But what is true is that We won’t have shared playlists until 2024 as is the case Apple has assured in a new published document where it puts a footer in relation to this function which says: “It will be updated in 2024.”
