Since its introduction and market launch in 2014, Apple Pay has gradually spread to more countries, however, Latin America is one of the regions that Apple seems to have forgotten. At least until now, since according to the guys at 9to5Mac, Apple is preparing the expansion of Apple Pay in Central America from Costa Rica.
According to this media, Apple Pay is preparing its launch in Costa Rica with bank BAC Credomatic. If this news is confirmed, Costa Rica would be the second Spanish-speaking country in America to receive this feature after Mexico. In Brazil, Apple Pay has been operational since the last Olympic Games organized in 2016.
Thus, Costa Rica would become the First country in Central America to benefit from Apple Pay support, a feature already available in more than 60 countries. Apparently, BAC Credomatic started testing Apple Pay support in Costa Rica a few weeks ago, support that will initially be available to VISA and Mastercard users.
To see if a bank’s plans are on the verge of adopting Apple Pay, the bank needs to show that it is compatible with Apple WalletThis compatibility is currently not offered by the official BAC Credomatic app, but the one available through Test Flight.
Taking into account that BAC Credomatic is not only available in Costa Rica, but is also present in other countries such as El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Bahamas and Grand CaymanAs the launch takes place in Costa Rica, it will likely only be a matter of days before Apple Pay reaches other countries.
