Apple warns of malware on iPhone for the second time in 2024!
For the second time so far in 2024, Apple has launched a campaign issuing a series of threat notifications warning of possible spyware attacks.
For now, Apple did not disclose the identity of the attackers or the specific countries where the threats were detected. But he said the attacks were targeted individually and the affected users were selected based on their profile or activities.
Apple warns iPhone users of ‘mercenary spyware attacks’
Apple called the incidents “mercenary spyware attacks.”a recently adopted terminology instead of the term “state-sponsored attacks” he used previously.
The message the company wrote in the warning to affected customers reads:
Apple has detected that you are the target of a mercenary spyware attack that is attempting to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID -xxx-.
This attack likely targets you specifically because of who you are or what you do. While it’s never possible to achieve absolute certainty when detecting these types of attacks, Apple is confident in this warning – take it seriously.
This new wave of warnings comes after detection of similar attacks in India during October 2023where journalists and politicians received similar notifications. Human rights group Amnesty International confirmed the presence of Pegasus, a highly invasive spyware developed by Israeli company NSO Group, on the iPhones of some of those affected.
A constant battle for Apple
Threat notifications, while worrisome, are a crucial step in alerting users and enabling them to take preventative action. The company also reinforced its position on the sensitivity of its threat detection methods.
While Apple has robust security measures in place, no system is foolproof. As users, we can supplement our security efforts by updating our devices to the latest versions of iOS and installing reliable security software to minimize the risk of falling victim to spyware attacks.
