Apple TV+ does well to have a laid-back spy plot

Apple, LaidBack, plot, spy

Spies, a British secret agency and an intelligence officer played by Gary Oldman. They are the ingredients for you to imagine a series of international intrigues, but ‘slow horses‘ don’t look for that although he has them. Its second season, released a week ago and of which you can already see the first three chapters, has its own tone.

When I saw the first season, I already commented on the surprise of ‘Slow Horses’: it looks like a leftover, a comedy in which all the characters can’t help but be pessimistic. At first you’re not sure what you’re watching, but gradually the series places you in a storyline worth following.

From here, slight “spoilers” of the first season of Slow horses are mentioned. read at your own risk!

The first season of ‘Slow Horses’ is dedicated to telling (well) the background of the characters: British intelligence agents who failed in their missionsand that therefore they were sent to call swamp house where they dedicate themselves to doing boring jobs that no one else wants to do. Gary Oldman is in charge of this section, and like the house he leads the team from, he’s left-wing and very bad-tempered.

But the arrival of a new agent in swamp house causes the end of pessimism within the team, thanks to the appearance of a case with which they take the initiative and earn the respect of the most qualified agents.

New chapters leave explanations and go straight to the main plot, and that’s appreciated

The second season moves away from the explanation of the setting and begins fully with a new case that already includes a possible international conflict: a former British agent dies and leaves a message suggesting the existence of Russian moles in the United Kingdom. Bad business.

Once again, Gary Oldman embroiders his character (at least in the first chapters of the season) along with the rest of the team of the so-called slow horses fulfills its mission. The series seems to have started with a pleasant plot rhythm, which invites you to continue the plot so that you stay until the end.

The four best Apple TV+ series that make me pay for the subscription every month

We are not facing a series worthy of dozens of awards, but we are facing a second season and a series that we must not underestimate. Apple TV+ already has storylines and Detective novels be taken more seriously (‘Echo 3’ or ‘Shantaram’, for example), and the pleasant and more casual tone of ‘Slow Horses’ is welcome to offer a slightly more casual plot.
