Apple TV: how to close apps and how to switch apps

It’s not very often that an Apple TV app freezes, crashes, or crashes in some way, but it does happen from time to time. The best remedy for a buggy Apple TV app is to close it, but the process may not be so obvious to new (or even experienced) users.

Luckily, it’s easy to close a buggy Apple TV app, and while we’re at it, we can also show you how to quickly switch between Apple TV apps.

This is what you must do.

Summary:

  • Reading time: 5 minutes
  • Necessary tools: Siri Remote
  • Materials needed: Apple TV or Apple TV 4K
  • Cost: 0$

1. Double-click the TV button on the Siri Remote (Apple TV)

Siri

The first step is to call up the Apple TV App Switcher view, which looks like a series of windows representing each of the open Apple TV apps.

To do this, double-press the TV button (the one with the TV screen icon) on the Siri Remote (this is the official name of the remote that came with your Apple TV).

2. Go to the Apple TV app you want to close or force quit

AppleTV

Next, you need to go to the Apple TV app that you want to close. Utilizando el panel de control del mando a distancia Siri de second generación (el que tiene el chasis de aluminio que se muestra en el primer paso), desliza el dedo de un lado a otro hasta que la ventana con la application que quieres cerrar esté en center.

If you’re using the original Siri Remote (the black one), follow the same process using the touchpad on top of the remote.

3. Swipe up to close the app (or click to enter)

Apple TV Plus

Now close the app by swiping up on the Siri Remote’s touchpad (in case of the 2nd Gen Siri Remote) or on the touchpad (on the original remote). When you do, the app window flies up and disappears, essentially forcing the app to quit.

If you just want to switch apps instead of closing them, tap the icon touchpad or the touch surface of the Siri Remote.

4. Close the application switching screen

AppleTV

Finally, press the “Back” button (on the 2nd Gen Siri Remote, pictured above) or the “Menu” button (on the original Siri Remote) to exit the app switcher view and return in the app switcher view. Standard Apple TV interface.

If the app you closed encountered an error, try opening it again and hope it works normally.
