Rumor has it that there could be more than one new Apple Watch on the horizon for this 2022 and so it is. In addition to the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE, Apple has launched a new, even bigger and much more durable model designed for sports enthusiasts.

With that smart watch, the company had set out to create the toughest and most capable Apple Watch in its history, and it looks like it succeeded. Plus, it has the biggest and brightest screen yet, plus a new button called the Action button.

When will Apple Watch Ultra be released?

As we announced, Apple presented a new category of Apple Watch during the event Far This Wednesday, September 7. From this day on, you can reserve your model, even if it won’t be officially released before Friday, September 23, 2022.

During this same Apple Event, the company announced two other models: the Apple Watch Series 8 and the Apple Watch SE. Both can also be reserved now, but they will arrive in stores before next Friday, September 16.

These are the release dates in Europe. We are still waiting to find out when they will arrive in Mexico.

How much will the Apple Watch Ultra cost?

It’s no surprise that, being the biggest and toughest Apple Watch in its entire history, it’s also considerably more expensive than other models. So much so that its price starts at $999 / MXN19,999. Remember that the Series 8 starts at $499 / MXN$9,999.

What is the design of the Apple Watch Ultra?

Cut

Apple Watch Ultra arrives in a new larger size. It uses a 49mm titanium case, so those rumors of it having a 50mm display have not been confirmed, a big difference as small as it may seem.

Maybe a 50mm size would have been too big for the average wrist. But having a big watch has its perks too, like room for a bigger battery and the ability to see six measurements at once.

Buttons

There’s a new button, which Apple calls the Action button. You will recognize it because it is bright orange. You can customize it to perform certain functions such as monitoring a workout.

The Digital Crown is also larger on this Apple Watch and has thicker grooves. On the other hand, the side button is slightly raised in relation to the case, which should facilitate support with gloves.

build quality

The biggest difference between the Apple Watch Series 8 and the Apple Watch Ultra is undoubtedly its size. If you want a larger screen, you will have to bet on the smart watch more robust.

But it’s not just bigger. The Apple Watch Ultra has a titanium case, unlike the Series 8, which is now only available in aluminum and stainless steel (the Series 7 was also available in a titanium option).

The titanium case should be beneficial for extreme sports as it is lightweight, sturdy and offers corrosion resistance. The sapphire crystal display is also protected from shocks by the case.

As for the robustness of the watch, Apple claims that it can withstand temperatures from -20º to 55º. You can also use it 40 meters underwater (it is EN13319 certified). When you dive, you will be able to see information such as depth, temperature and immersion time.

What are the features of Apple Watch Ultra?

audio

There are other visible (and audible) differences. We’ve mentioned the bright orange Action button, but there’s also a built-in siren in the case that emits an 86-decibel sound that can be heard 180 yards away.

There’s also a three-microphone array that lets you make calls and be heard even in very windy surroundings, which is typical in the mountains.

Sensors and Gauges

There is a depth gauge to measure the depth under water. It also records the water temperature.

GPS

The new L5 GPS joins the L1 GPS to improve navigation around tall buildings, trees and other elements that can block the signal. There is also a more accurate compass in the Compass app.

Processor

Apple hasn’t mentioned which chip is in the Apple Watch Series 8, but we can assume it’s the same S7 chip used in the Apple Watch 7.

Battery life

The Apple Watch Ultra will offer 36 hours of battery life in “normal use”, according to Apple. In terms of less normal usage, Apple says someone participating in a triathlon will have adequate battery life.

Apple also says “coming soon” low power settings will extend battery life to 60 hours on low power settings, which we believe is similar to the low power mode of all watches from from Apple. .

What features does the Apple Watch Ultra offer?

Apple Watch Ultra has everything Apple Watch Series 8 has to offer, including new features.

Ovulation Tracker

Along comes the ability to track temperature changes during sleep to let women know if they are ovulating. This feature is intended to help women who are trying to get pregnant manage this process and be aware of any potential issues with their cycle.

Accident detection

The accelerometer will detect if there has been an impact, which will detect when you have suffered a serious traffic accident. Apple Watch will alert emergency services, provide location information, and notify loved ones if you’ve added them as emergency contacts.

Like the Apple Watch Series 7, the Apple Watch offers the ECG app and heart rate notifications, fall detection, and an always-on display.
