How does Apple’s new self-service repair program work?
Those in Cupertino have just launched a new page, the Self Service Repair Store, where interested people can buy genuine Apple parts and the tools needed for repair, as well as consult the repair manual.
Apple allows you to order the corresponding parts to repair the battery, the lower speaker, the camera, the screen, the SIM card slot and the Taptic Engine. That’s over 200 individual parts and tools ranging from $0.10 to over $300, although you can get a rebate if you return broken parts for recycling.
To use the service, the customer must first consult the repair manual of the product he wishes to repair. Then you can go to the self-service store and order the parts and tools needed for said repair.
Among the tools offered by Apple, there are torque screwdrivers, repair plate, among others. You can rent a kit for $49, an ideal option if you just want to repair a product and need professional tools.
