The horror experts at Supermassive Games are now working on the next genre representative called The Quarry – and it’s apparently supposed to take on epic proportions. The horror title is said to have almost 200 different endings.
If you want to get the latest horror prank from the developers of Supermassive with The Quarry, you can obviously spend several hours with this one. If you want to experience all variants of the gameplay, you have to start many passes.
In conversation with the English-speaking colleagues from IGN in the person of game director Will Byles, the makers confirmed that there will be no less than 186 different endings in The Quarry. What you see depends on what decisions you make as the game progresses.
According to Byles, this circumstance is also a “mathematical nightmare” for the development team, after all, so many options are a huge mountain of work for the developers and also for the actors of the individual characters. Nevertheless, the nearly 200 ends were accommodated in a script for the title that was over 1,000 pages long.
Working on such an extensive script is “an interesting exercise”, after all, you approach it like a full-fledged film. You develop different styles of characters and then you have to decide how to fit it all into a 10-hour game experience.
Actors are initially overwhelmed by such an extensive script, after all, many films are used to scripts of just 100 pages. As a result, you have to get around 50 script pages per day in the box – and that’s really a lot of scenes.
However, not all of your gameplay decisions have a huge impact. There are major decisions that “significantly affect the story” and also affect other characters in the game. However, there will also be dozens of choices specific to the storyline of the character you are currently playing, such as their relationship.
The Quarry is expected to be released on June 10, 2022 and will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
