We have just started the year 2024 and we look back to see what Apple has shown us throughout it, and above all, to remember what the great disappointments of the year have been in all aspects , not only in hardware, but also in software and services.
These are Apple’s big disappointments throughout 2023, and we hope they figure out how to reverse them for 2024, grab a seat and some popcorn, because we’re bringing you some great content.
If in doubt, you can always take a look at this fantastic article prepared by our colleague Ángel González, recalling all Apple’s launches during the year 2023. Now let’s activate our critical gaze, the time has come to Call to account for their disappointments and failures.
Hint
Apple Watch Series 9: still the same thing
We start strong with a device that was intended to be the flagship product in many ways and which remained a little more than nothing. The Apple Watch Series 9 did not bring the much-mentioned design change that many expected. With small improvements made to the panel over the years, the reality is that little differentiates the original Apple Watch from the current version, again with the promise that this year will be the definitive year to change the course of design and Apple Watch features.
In the medical field, the new device does not have the promised sensors, especially now that the North American ITC has blocked the sale of these devices for violating patents on the blood oxygen sensor. Without a doubt, The new Apple Watch Series 2 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 appear to be meaningless models, generating huge disappointment among a significant sector of Apple users who were looking for a reasonable excuse to retire an Apple Watch Series 5, for example. The new features are diluted with double-touch operation (present in other devices), supposed improvements to Siri and better energy consumption which has also not been demonstrated.
Apple Vision Pro: late, bad and never
On June 5, 2023, Apple wanted to silence users when Tim Cook wanted to become a Steve Jobs, generating the expectation imposed with the birth of the iPod or the iPhone, but the Apple Vision Pro was a rushed presentation, a project that many heard and almost no one saw, and a difficult product to welcomer to the needs of today’s users.
An augmented/virtual reality viewer, which Tim Cook wanted to call it the most ambitious product they have ever created. The reality is that the reviews of the few who have been able to use them are not good, the product generates little or no interest among developers, and it has quickly positioned itself as a device as elitist as it is useless.
Google has already failed miserably with a similar product, and Apple preferred to concentrate its efforts (and its money) on this augmented/virtual reality, in the middle of 2023, which will be known as the year of artificial intelligence.
Apple and artificial intelligence do not go hand in hand, and the fault seems to lie with the Apple Vision Pro, an unfinished product, which the Cupertino company itself seems to want to bury.
There are dozens of rumors about every new Apple device, and yet the Vision Pro generates no interest among leakers. In short, a stillborn device, because no one wants to have an iPhone even closer to their eyes, and Just thinking about integrating the Vision Pro into a productive environment gives me chills.
iOS 17, the great uselessness
Let’s make no mistake, the key to the iPhone’s success is not the apple, it’s not the USB-C port and it’s not its great battery life. The key to the success of the iPhone is called iOS. With each new version since the arrival of Tim Cook, the Cupertino company shows greater interest in the marketing of its associated services, including advertising for them in the Settings app, while an operating system full of bugs has made us, the most experienced users, rethink whether it is really worth continuing to bet on iOS.
iOS 17.1 contained a multitude of errors that prevented the proper functioning of the WiFi network, transitions have fluidity and design issues since iOS 16. Since the launch of iOS 17, we have had problems with NFC working correctly after using the wireless charger in some BMW vehicles, and it often happens that the device does not update due to. .. potatoes.
And that’s not the only thing, with the arrival of the iPhone 15 in all its versions we noticed incompatibilities between the operating system and certain applications which led to processor saturation, consuming a lot of battery and Above all, causing the iPhone to heat up to the point of making it impossible to use.
And this continues even in the beta phase, and iOS 17.3 has shown that it is capable of rendering iPhones unusable for no apparent reason. So much so that the Cupertino company was forced to withdraw this trial version of the software due to continued complaints from developers.
The death of HomePod
We end with the death of HomePod, a product that Apple has abandoned almost since its launch, and see how other companies like Sonos have been the toast of Apple even in the areas where it has performed best, that is, with productivity and integration as a priority.
For more completeness, Apple made irrelevant improvements to the AirPods Pro 2, like the inclusion of a USB-C port and absolutely nothing else. Meanwhile, it continues to release Beats products that are AirPods with different cases, and users are wondering if Apple is really planning to abandon half of its audio products like this.
