Apple’s India expansion slows dramatically

India

Apple’s project is to diversify its suppliers and for this it considers it necessary that the work be carried out in several countries. This is the case of the saying not to put all your eggs in one basket. With the big problems that have arisen in China as a result of coercive measures due to the COVID pandemic, more countries should be able to fill these gaps. India seemed a good ally for this task. However, quality standards are not met and as a result, this idea may need to be stopped.

Apple’s workforce is very diverse and very diverse. The objective of dealing with the setbacks that may arise in an emergency. In the case, for example, of the pandemic, almost all production was in China. But today it is diversifying and India is an emerging country. But it doesn’t seem like it’s happening at the pace the company wants, seeing how quality standards are only 50% met. Although India has been an Apple ally since 2017, Last year, Apple dramatically increased production in India, building some iPhone 14 models in the country within weeks of its launch in China.

At a factory in Hosur run by Apple supplier Tata, which makes iPhone cases, only one in two components coming off the production line meets the quality required by the American company to be sent for assembly at Foxconn. A performance of these dimensions is particularly poor for almost all production operations. And it goes against the environmental and manufacturing goals of Apple’s “zero defect”.

We’ll see how it all ends. Because the Indian company wants to become one of Apple’s allies like Foxconn and be at its level, with whom we understand that their qualities will improve.
