According to the post shared on 9to5mac, a user identified as Damien Menn shared on his Twitter, Apple’s replacement protocol when requesting warranty service for a defective digital crown.

A brochure included in the package asks users to remove the original cushions that came with their AirPods Max, put on the fiber bags and store them safely for return.
These guidelines are surprising in the first place, because the practice of repair deviates from guidelines for other accessories like AirPods Pro, whose replacements come with a new set of silicone ear pads.
But when evaluating the $ 79 price of the pads, Apple’s condition seems reasonable. This, yes, the ear pads will be replaced under warranty if that specific part is defective.
