There’s nothing that makes me more desperate than problems with iPhone coverage in order to make and receive voice calls. This happens every time I go to visit a very close relative and for a long time I was frustrated having to make these calls via WhatsApp, Telegram or similar. Until the Wi-Fi callingalso known as VoWiFi.
It’s basically about making calls through the Wi-Fi network. But not calls like those we make through the aforementioned applications and which go through the Internet, no. It is Enjoy Wi-Fi network coverage for traditional voice callssomething that all recent iPhone models support.
What is Wi-Fi Calling Service
For cases like the one I mentioned in the introduction, i.e. homes with poor or no voice coverage, Wi-Fi calling can be very beneficial. And that’s it By being connected to this network, you can make calls
Apart, Wi-Fi calling has other benefits too such as better quality and a more stable call, in many cases even solving delays. If the Wi-Fi signal received by our iPhone is good, it may even be better than voice coverage.
This, yes, We must keep in mind that when we move away from the router the call may be lost.. At the same time that the Wi-Fi connection disappears from the iPhone, the call switches to traditional voice coverage and if this is poor, the quality will suffer. It may even hang if there is not enough time to establish the call.
How to enable Wi-Fi calling on iPhone
The steps to enable this feature are as follows:
- Open “Settings” on the iPhone.
- Go to the “Mobile data” section.
- Enter “Wi-Fi Calling”.
- Activate the “Wi-Fi Call this iPhone” tab.
- Confirm that you want to enable this feature.
Once this is done, All calls will now be made over Wi-Fi where possible without you having to activate anything. If the network signal is very weak and it is detected that the voice coverage is better, in this case the second option will be chosen. In any case, it is something that is already automatic and as soon as it is activated you can forget about it.
Which carriers allow Wi-Fi calling on iPhone
It should be noted that even though iPhones support this function, it must be provider company of your line which also supports this function
- Jazztel.
- Lowi.
- Movistar.
- O2.
- Orange.
- Simyo.
- Vodafone.
I have to say that in some of them they are only supported for contract lines and not for prepayment, so if you are in this second circumstance it is advisable to contact them to clarify it.
As you will see, some are missing like Digi or Yoigo. They don’t support this type of feature yet and it’s unclear if they will add it in the future, but at the time of publishing this article, none of them have it.
