iOS 16.4 is here, and if you haven’t already installed it on your iPhone, you should now. But after checking out all the new emoji and setting up your web app’s push notifications, there are a few extra features you might not notice if you don’t know where to look. We’re here to help you find them:
Voice isolation for calls
A feature that appeared in the release notes for the build candidate, voice isolation for cell calls “prioritizes your voice and blocks out ambient noise around you.” Already available for FaceTime, Apple says Voice Isolation can be used “when you want your voice to be heard clearly during a FaceTime call and filter out other sounds.”
To activate the feature, you will need to make or receive a call. Then open the control center, tap Microphone mode
Curl animation of the Apple Books page
Foundry
For some reason, Apple decided to remove Apple Books’ delightful looping animation when flipping pages in iOS 16. Good news, book lovers: it’s back in iOS 16.4. When you head into Apple Books settings, you’ll see a new Page turn animation tab with three options: Slide, Curl and None. Faucet Loop to change it from the default of iOS 16 and make your iPhone feel like a little book again.
Duplicate detection in iCloud Shared Photo Library
When iOS 16 launched, it brought a new feature that automatically detected duplicates and placed them in their own album so you could decide if you wanted to merge them into one to clean up your camera roll. However, the setting only applied to individual libraries, which meant that it did not apply to iCloud Shared Photo Libraries. In iOS 16.4, it does. To find it, switch to your shared library, then go to the Album tab, scroll to Utilitiesand select Duplicates.
