Patents that Apple has and rumors suggest that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone or, at least, a foldable device such as a rumored iPad. However, it seems that The foldable iPhone project is put on hold due to the simple fact that the foldable screen prototypes do not perform well in tests.
In China, a blogger with over 1.7 million followers, Fixed Focus Digital, first commented: Apple’s folding screen prototypes fail quality tests determined by Cupertino
Apple is accelerating research and development of products with foldable screens and has purchased several devices sold by partners to study their disassembly. However, the project was reportedly temporarily abandoned due to failed screen tests.
According to a publication this month, The main suppliers of these screens are Samsung and LG and they have been sending examples of screens to Apple for several months. The last ones sent measured between 7 and 8 inches
However, It’s unclear whether Apple is prioritizing an iPad or a foldable iPhone nor to what extent can we consider that one of these devices would be released in this format.
Personally, if I had to bet and because of the trajectory that Apple has had over the years, They would test foldable screens sooner on a device other than the iPhone, meaning Apple would launch a foldable iPad sooner than an iPhone. It has already tested other technologies on other devices before introducing them to the iPhone, since it is its flagship product and its main source of revenue. They wouldn’t take such a big risk without trying first.
