Everyone knows that Google is a money making business, especially with advertising. Normally it is found on web pages, but gradually it is spreading to other platforms.
The latest to show new ads is Google TV, the interface that has the latest announced Chromecast model, which we analyzed a few months ago.
Full screen video ads
As described by 9to5Google, the Chromecast interface with Google TV now includes space for an advertisement at the top, as well as suggestions. You can see this in the video from 9to5Google itself:
The problem isn’t so much the ad, but the fact that it’s a video that, to top it off, automatically plays. As if that weren’t enough, the sound is also on by default and if we don’t leave the interface, it expands until it shows in full screen.
It works the same as Netflix shows and movies when we read the synopsis, with the big difference that it’s commercial.
It is more than likely to arrive on Android TV
This ad remains on Google TV for now but given that the changes we see on this platform will arrive on Android TV in a few weeks, it is assumed that we will start seeing these ads on compatible TVs and set-top boxes shortly.
As of now, there doesn’t seem to be an option to turn it off, which would solve the problem as not many people would turn it off, but those who really don’t want these kinds of videos could.
It was clear that not all of the Chromecast improvements with Google TV were going to be positive, or related to the arrival of new apps.
