Can you use an Apple Watch without an iPhone?
Yes and no.
When purchasing an Apple Watch, you will need an iPhone to set it up. There is no other way to do it. The Watch app on your iPhone is the one that does the heavy lifting and without it you will only have an extremely expensive bracelet.
We have an article where we go into detail on how to set up an Apple Watch, but what should be clear is that without an iPhone you won’t get very far. Apple continues to view the Apple Watch as a complement to mobile. So much so that you can’t do the same even with a Mac or iPad.
So why did we answer “yes and no” instead of “no” directly? Although you cannot set up an Apple Watch without an iPhone, the truth is that there are a lot of features in the device which means you can leave your mobile at home and continue to use it.
Here are some of our favorite features that you can use without an iPhone:
Track your activity levels
Do you want to complete your rings without having to carry your iPhone with you when you go for a run? Apple Watch will continue to record all of your steps and other health information and then sync them to your iPhone when you get home.

Listen to music
If you want to listen to music or your favorite podcast when you go for a run, you can record a lot of songs on the Apple Watch itself. You can listen to them whenever you want without needing to have your iPhone nearby.
Obviously, since there is no port jack On the Apple Watch, you will need to use a Bluetooth headset. It is true that it has very small speakers, but it is not recommended (if only to not disturb others).
Make and receive calls
If you have an Apple Watch Series 3 or later, the fact that it supports mobile data means you can set it up to be an extension of your iPhone. So you can make and receive calls right on your watch, even without an iPhone nearby.

Can you use an Apple Watch with an Android?
No.
If Apple doesn’t want the Apple Watch to work with iPads and Macs, it’s easy to understand that Android phones aren’t on the list of compatible devices either. smart watch Apple (currently configured only by iPhone).
