The year has just started for Apple, which has already launched the Vision Pro (but only in the United States, for now) and the new MacBook Air with the M3 chip. The new iPads aim to be the following, although this year they do not want to forget one of their flagship products: AirPods. And they are already on their way.
At the end of last year, we already knew a little about Apple’s roadmap with AirPods, especially with the cheaper range. This is information that Mark Gurman provided based on his sources and now it is precisely this analyst who is moving forward again facts about the new Apple headphones which will arrive this year. Of course, don’t expect them in the next few weeks either.
The AirPods 4, with their two versions, will be the stars
Between 20 and 25 million units of AirPods will be produced by Apple throughout this year. This is the information that Mark Gurman offers in his latest Bloomberg newsletter. As he explains, and always relying on suppliers, This will be the biggest AirPods launch yet
For this year, they are expected renewals for everyone, except ‘Pro’, the latest version of which was released a year and a half ago now. It seems that Apple does not have any plans with them in the short term, although obviously new generations are not excluded for 2025, since it is a range that has worked well for Apple. And when they arrive, they’ll likely come with new health features and other improvements.
The problem was the AirPods 3, which doesn’t seem to have worked out so well for Apple and that’s why they are preparing big things for the AirPods 4. The highlight is that There will be a “normal” version of AirPods 4 and another with noise cancellation. Until now, this function was exclusive to the “Pro” and “Max” range, and is also a claim in the case of AirPods Pro.
The idea is to make noise cancellation more accessible to users who want it no matter what, but without giving them all the quality and features of the AirPods Pro. For example, although not mentioned in the source, adaptive audio could be a waiver.
Nothing is mentioned about the AirPods Max on this occasion, although based on previous reports it is clear that Apple’s highest range of headphones is renewed only with new colors and USB-C. This would be an interesting, albeit relative, update. If they don’t incorporate new features into their chip or improvements of any kind in playback, they might not even be considered AirPods Max 2.
September is the month that seems to be the loudest to see new AirPods
The safe arrival of AirPods 4 will serve to say goodbye to AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 from the Apple catalog. This is why it remains uncertain to know the prices, since it is obvious that the model with noise cancellation is a little more expensive, although it should not be too close to the current price of 279 dollars of the AirPods Pro 2. In any case, the figures they are processing at Apple may not be known at the moment.
What seems to follow a plan is the launch. Gurman bets it will in September with the new iPhone when these new AirPods debut. This is not 100% guaranteed, given that they could also be postponed to October or November if there were more Apple events, although the truth is that they would fit in well there.
The fact is that after a deserted year 2023 for AirPods, we now dare to launch them this year. Of course, nothing says that they will arrive in the coming weeks since the iPads will arrive. Even for WWDC 2024 in June, it doesn’t look like they’ll be there.
