A few days ago, Apple updated the firmware of almost all of its AirPods sold to date to fix a serious security issue. In the coming weeks, all of the headphones will have their firmware updated via Bluetooth connection with Apple devices and the problem will be fixed. Beyond the software update, Apple seems interested in integrating cameras into the AirPods and according to the latest rumors indicate that the production of these first headphones would begin in 2026.

This is not news that surprises us since February, we have been hearing reports about the future of AirPods. And part of th is future goes through there adding and integrating new sensors and cameras to increase possibilities

The information comes from the hand of analyst and leaker Ming Chi-Kuo who assures that In 2026, production of the first AirPods with cameras on the market will begin. The explanation why the following AirPods introduce cameras is the opening of the integration with Apple Vision Pro, thus strengthening the space computing ecosystem which Apple inaugurated with its mixed reality glasses.
These cameras would not be cameras as we know them but could be infrared cameras similar to those used for unlocking via Face ID which will allow you to analyze the user’s environment. This will allow you to better manage gestures around the AirPods as well as control playback based on other interesting variables. These headphones could arrive in 2026 or 2027 knowing that mass production would begin in 2026.
