The mobile industry is not the same as the automotive industry, although with the arrival of electric cars we are seeing more and more similarities. The most powerful vehicle brands in history have always had ambitious sports models with incredible power and even more ridiculous acceleration. They weren’t intended for the general public, far from it, but they showed the strike force of the company, the technical capacity that it was wasting. Folding mobiles are the same.
flagship devices
That Samsung is trying to sell many Galaxy Flips might make sense, after all it’s been priced similarly to the Galaxy S from the start. What seems stranger is that Huawei, which has almost left in the sector in Europe, has announced the sale of its latest foldable, the Huawei Mate XS2 on our continent.
Plus, it did so at an even higher price than Samsung’s most expensive model, the Fold. The Chinese company is asking 1,999 dollars for a terminal without Google applications and services.
The objective? Continue to be recognized as a leading company in the sector, even if it does not sell many units of this particular terminal.
OPPO, Xiaomi and Vivo follow in the footsteps
Something similar is happening with major Chinese manufacturers who want to expand their portfolio worldwide.
Both Xiaomi and OPPO and Vivo have the most striking and powerful folding book type models, but they do not sell them outside of their home countries.
Yes, it is true that OPPO is working on a model to compete with Samsung’s Flip, but it is also true that Apple is experimenting with this idea and that is not why we will soon see a flexible iPhone.
Apple does not need
The only big one that doesn’t have a foldable is Apple. It is normal, it is not necessary to consider it as a reference in such a competitive sector. iPhones are very valid mobiles and the company’s own idiosyncrasy of not betting on technology prematurely invites us to think that we won’t see a foldable iPhone for many years.
We hope that the evolution of this type of mobile models will soon reach the mid-range and go from aspirational models to terminals for everyone.
