Samsung has already announced the next generation of its most premium smartphones, the Galaxy S24, and they feature artificial intelligence. The South Korean company’s new flagship products have functions such as real-time call translation and ability to create original wallpapers using generative AI. However, there are still many new features and changes to discover in these devices.
One of these changes is the new Screen always visible. In this generation of the Galaxy S, Samsung has implemented an interesting change: the “always on” screen can display wallpaper of the mobile phone and even information through widgets, something that Apple also included in the iPhone a few years ago.
Wallpaper or not wallpaper, that is the question
The Always On display change was discovered by Android Police. Mobile Settings Options reveals that the Always On screen can now also display the mobile wallpaper blurry and in low brightness, like a visual detail to accompany what was until now just a simple completely black screen.
It is also possible to configure the display only part of the wallpaper in Always On mode. For example, if the wallpaper is a photograph of a person or a pet, we can choose to have Samsung’s AI display only the subject on the Always On screen, cropping the image.
Always On mode is designed to display information on the screen consume as little energy as possible, and this is why the Always On screen on Android traditionally illuminates only a small part of its surface, keeping the rest of the panel completely off. When displaying the wallpaper, even in a very low brightness mode, it could consume more power than the classic Always On mode.
The Always On screen shows the default wallpaper on the Galaxy S24, but Fortunately it can be disabled, if you wish.: Just go to the system settings menu, then the lock screen section, then go to Always On Display and select whether or not you want this screen to display the same wallpaper as the one configured on the lock screen.
The three models of the new Galaxy S24 family have a variable refresh rate between 1 and 120 Hz, which would, in theory, allow the wallpaper and more information to be displayed on the Always On screen without needing to consume too much power. However, if you don’t want to run the risk of using more battery than necessary, simply turn off the wallpaper and return to the usual Always On screen, completely black and minimalist.
