Huawei phones don’t have Google services or Google apps pre-installed, so Huawei opted to create its own mapping app, Petal Maps. The app has been frequently updated to match and even surpass Google Maps in some respects and now reached version 3.3 with very interesting news.
Petal Maps wants to be taken seriously not just as an alternative to Google Maps, but as a decent mapping and navigation app in its own right. This latest version includes a 3D view of the globe, shutdown warnings, the gas prices, satellite information, route warnings and measurement of area and perimeter.
3d globe
When zooming out in Google Maps on mobile at some point we hit the max and can’t go any further, but in Petal Maps they went the more Google Earth-like route: zooming in far enough , we will see the 3d globeeither with the map view or with the satellite view.
Public transport stop notice
Petal Maps has long included public transport directions and works very similarly to Google Maps. A new trick Petal Maps is also borrowing from Google Maps is the ability to receive a warning before stopping.
The warning is optional and is enabled by default for bus routes. when we are at one stop before ourswe will receive a notification to prepare to exit the bus.
gasoline prices
Another interesting novelty of Petal Maps is that now shows the price of gasoline by searching for gas stations in the area. It is not available worldwide, but it is in Europe.
Thus, by playing in the category of Gas station on the map we will see superimposed on the map itself theGasoline prices at each gas station. We will also see them by touching any of them, and the update date is included.
satellite information
A rather curious novelty of Petal Maps is that we can see in all kinds of detail GPS satellites visible on the horizon and to which we are connected.
This way you don’t need to use an app to see if you are connected to Galileo, Beidou, GLONASS and other satellites. You can also see positioning accuracy
Route Warnings
Like Waze (and Google Maps), Petal Maps allows us report incidents on the road, as long as we are connected. Obviously, these reports will appear to other users who navigate using Petal Maps.
The incidents that we can report today are the presence of police, closed roads, hazards, floods and speed limits.
Perimeter and area measurement
Finally, Petal Maps goes one step further than Google Maps distance measurement, also allowing us to measure the perimeter or area of an area.
For this, points must be created during a measurement (the same as always), but the last point must be connect with another to close the shape and thus be able to consult both the perimeter and the area, in the default measurement unit.
These new features can be found in Petal Cards 3.3 betawhich you can download and install from APKMirror, in addition to being able to obtain it through the App Gallery, Huawei’s application store.
