In 2015, google tested a split keyboard with the Android Marshmallow beta, but that design never materialized and we had to wait seven years for an answer.
By Gboard beta A new option that refers to the future has started to appear for some Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 users Google keyboard split layout.
The new option is called “Split layout to include duplicate keys”. This will allow the user to duplicate letters when splitting the keyboard so that they are accessible with both the right or left hand, which the iPad allows with a trick.
This option under development does not work yet. It doesn’t do anything when activated, so Gboard’s layout with the split keyboard remains a mystery. It is not known if it will be limited to only dividing the keys into two groups or if it will divide the keyboard in two to allow the user to see more content on the screen.
