Summer can be deadly for your cell phone, especially if you use it in direct sunlight. Heat from the environment then combines with the screen to increase its brightness, causing further overheating. Google has a solution for this and calls it internally “adaptive thermal“, or something like adaptive temperature.
This new feature, which is not yet active but which can be found in version 1.27 of Pixel Device Health, It will take various measures when it detects that the temperature of the mobile phone increasesshowing us preventive warnings to end up turning off the mobile if the overheating is significant.
Don’t let your Android phone burn
Has it ever happened to you that your mobile it overheats and eventually shuts down by your own? This is a pretty common security measure that Google is going to take further, at least in the Google Pixel, trying to help you so that it’s not necessary.
The novelty is internally called “Adaptive Thermal” and will control the internal temperature of the mobile to alert you if it overheats too much. Thanks to Android Authority’s review of the Google Pixel Device Health app APK, we have a good idea of how it works:
- If the battery is placed at 49 C or higher: Pre-emergency mode is enabled, displaying the notification “Your phone needs to cool down” with the text “You may experience slower performance. Avoid direct sunlight or apps that use a lot of battery”, with a button to view system measurements. took (decrease in performance, disable 5G) and what you can do to cool down the mobile, such as closing games or putting the mobile in a ventilated place.
- If the battery is placed at 52 C or more: emergency mode is activated. It is still unclear what measures are being taken in this state, but we can imagine that the system will apply even greater restrictions in an attempt to cool the terminal.
- If the battery is placed above 55°C: automatic shutdown is activated. The system warns us with a 30-second countdown before turning off the phone.
Although many (or all) mobile phones turn off due to extreme overheating or even take preventive measures to prevent the situation from getting worse, such as reduced performance, Interestingly, the system itself warns us in time so we can act before it gets so hot it can only be put out.
This new not yet active and initially it should be exclusive to the Google Pixel, since it is included in the services application exclusive to these terminals. We hope this eventually reaches the rest of Android phones later.
