Furnishing and decorating a house is always complicated, especially calculating whether the piece of furniture will suit you and, the most difficult, whether it really looks good where you are going to put it. Google is helping out by showing you the IKEA catalogue, in 3D, at homewith augmented reality.
From the creators of 3D animals come IKEA furniture. If until now you needed an application like IKEA Place to see the company’s furniture with augmented reality, now it’s worth it with any mobile with Google search engine and ARCore.
¿Malm, Kullen or Koppang?
During the pandemic, we had fun recording videos with 3D tigers and hippos at home, but now it’s time to use augmented reality technology for something more productive. For example, to see if the chest of drawers fits in the living room or if the color clashes with the curtains.
All this is possible since Google has included a good part of the IKEA product catalog between its catalog of 3D objects. To see an IKEA product in your home, the hardest part is going to be typing the product name correctly into Google, then pressing the button Distant and 3D which appears under the official result on their website.
All mobiles will be able to see the product in 3D, but those that are compatible with ARCore, Android’s augmented reality system, will see the button See in your space.
The following steps are usual: slowly move the mobile pointing towards the ground so that the system locates itself then the furniture will be shown in your home and in actual scale. Unlike the rest of Google’s 3D objects, you can’t scale them.
For the rest, you are free take photos or record videosAlthough, naturally, these pieces of furniture don’t react like 3D animals did and won’t move or roar, which is nice.
