The Google app store is evolving. Google recently announced the arrival of artificial intelligence in its app and content store, the Play Store, but the company also wants to make it easier for us, the users, discover new applications.

That’s why, first of all, they announced the new “Collections”, a new way to discover content. On the other hand, Play Store will also start recommending apps and content to us depending on our locationand for this he wants us to grant him permission to know exactly where we are.

The Play Store wants to know where you are so it can recommend things to you

After updating to the latest version of the Google Play Store (42.1.27), users started receiving a message inviting them to get local recommendations in the App Store. If we accept the request, we will have to grant permissions to the Google Play Store so that it can access our location approximate, by selecting one of the three available options: “Allow while I’m using the app”, “Allow only this time” and “Do not allow”.

Free apps are free for a reason. And they get more from you than you think.

From now on, Play Store will start making local suggestions and recommendations. This, in theory, will help us discover applications, offers and all types of content of local interest. Hopefully this should make it easier to find apps targeted to specific communities, which can be very useful especially if we are traveling during the holidays.D

There are two very interesting aspects to this new Play Store feature: first, the fact that Google Play knows our location This does not affect the region or country we have set in our Google Play account. On the other hand, the Play Store will be able to access our approximate location and not our precise location.

If you regret allowing Google Play to access your location and no longer wish to receive local recommendations, you can disable this feature by following these steps:

  • In the Google Play Store, tap your avatar photo in the top right corner and immediately select Settings.
  • Then select General
  • Finally, disable the option “Use device location

This way, Google Play will no longer recommend content based on your approximate location. On the other hand, it is also possible to completely revoke access to your location from Google Play. To do this, follow this path: Access the settings menu of your Android mobile, go to the Applications section, search for the Google Play Store application and then click on the Permissions option. In this section, revoke permission to access your location.
