Google’s crash detection will no longer be exclusive to Pixels

Three years ago, Google announced accident detection as a security measure by which the mobile was put in contact with the emergency services if it detects that you have had an accident traffic. Now, indications in Google’s emergency app tell us that crash detection will no longer be exclusive to Google Pixels.

Google having a potentially life-saving feature ready and backing it up for its own phones was something. the least controversial

. Three years later, the feature looks set to hit non-Google Pixel phones.

Accident detection for everyone?

From Google Pixel 4 and in Europe from 2021, Google mobiles can activate car accident detection. Thanks to the mobile’s sensors, when the mobile detects a possible accident, it can automatically call emergency services. In Europe, call 112.

To avoid false positives and unnecessary calls, before switching the mobile vibrates, sounds an alarm and asks if you need help

. If you don’t answer, he will call 112 and provide your location to the emergency services.

How to Enable Car Crash Detection on Your Google Pixel

Since launch, crash detection was a pixel-only feature, but evidence 9to5Google found in the APK of the latest version of Google’s Personal Security app seems to clearly indicate that It will also be available for mobiles other than Google Pixel

.

the emergencies

The text strings found in the APK strategically change mentions of “Pixel” to “your device”, and include the “non_pixel” suffix in their names. It seems, other emergency functions such as crisis alerts and security checks would also reach more mobiles.

What is not clear is when or what requirements should a mobile have to support this type of alerts. One possibility is that support will come through a Google Play Services update.
