We thought the rumors had already given us a pretty complete picture of what we’ll see with iOS 17, but it looks like there’s more news that so far hasn’t leaked. Mark Gurman commented on Bloomberg that iOS 17 will have the ability to turn our iPhone into a kind of smart screen.
The idea Gurman is leaking is to display relevant information on the iPhone screen while it’s locked and in a horizontal position, mimicking what Google is offering with its Nest Hub smart displays. We could see data such as appointments from our calendar, reminders or weather forecasts, among others.

In this way, iOS 17 could make our phone expand what, for example, the Apple Watch does when we leave it charging on the bedside table, showing the time in green like a traditional alarm clock. At Apple, they would have named this feature “Dawn”, and it would use light fonts on a dark background for easy reading. This is something they want to bring to the iPad as well, although it would come later with a redesign of the horizontal tablet interface.
It’s unclear if this would only support iPhone models with the always-on screen (the iPhone 14 Pro, for now) or if it would somehow open. another to older models, but this could be explained as an extension of the more discreet. widgets that we currently have on the iOS 16 lock screen.
