The prediction of eventless launches as such is not the only interesting thing that Mark Gurman said in his Sunday bulletin. Bloomberg editor bets on changing the names of iPhone 15 models, and believes that the hypothetical iPhone 15 Pro Max will be called “iPhone 15 Ultra”
Standard, Plus, Pro and Ultra
The justification for this name change can be due to several reasons, including a greater distinction with the 6.1-inch Pro model and the arrival of a USB-C port which would replace Lightning. The nomenclatures would also be a little simplified: iPhone, iPhone Plus, iPhone Pro, iPhone Ultra
This may also tie in with the recent arrival of the Apple Watch Ultra as Apple’s most sophisticated watch model, and you also need to consider the M1 Ultra chip currently in Mac Studio. Maybe in Cupertino they decided that two-word model names are too confusing
There’s still plenty of time to start thinking about this in more detail, but I can imagine that Apple will have to come up with a marketing move to justify this name change. Something that makes the iPhone Ultra deserve this name change to Ultra. Everything is done to keep an eye on the rumors that will arrive over the months.
