Google continues with the dismantling of Hangouts, its messaging service which next year 2021 will say goodbye forever to be completely replaced by Google Chat. The app continues to lose functionality with its updates. If a few months ago you lost the ability to share your location, you are now losing one of its featured features.
Hangouts loses its famous group video calls, which had already become obsolete, so their users should migrate to Google Meet, yes, with very poor integration.
This is the integration of Google Meet in Hangouts
If you still have Hangouts installed on your mobile, if you open the app you will see a notice that will inform you that now video calls in Hangouts use Google Meet
Well, this integration with Google Meet is limited to share a link that invites you and your contacts to join a video call. If you want to make a video call, you share a link, click on it to open the Meet app and you can join.
All group video calls will now need to be made through Google Meet via a link. However, for video calls between two people, you can choose to make a classic Hangouts video call with the option “Call … with video” or choose the new option “Share the link of a Meet video call”.
In the first half of 2021, Google will shut down Hangouts for good, which will be replaced by Google Chat and Google Meet with a transition which, as we see, has already started.
