Apple continues to work on devices with foldable screens and the MacBook we all dream of could soon become a reality
Apple’s MacBooks haven’t evolved in many years, it’s not really something attributable exclusively to Apple, laptops have barely changed in the last decade. Previous revolution in design Apple gave it precisely when it presented the MacBook Air in that famous Steve Jobs speech with an envelope. And the next big revolution could take place in 2026.
According to the latest industry information, Apple is preparing a completely revolutionary MacBook with a large foldable screen. Ming-Chi Kuo shared new details on what the MacBook Pro of our dreams
This will be the MacBook Pro of the future
Ming-Chi Kuo is one of the top analysts and his information is based on Apple’s supply chain, this means that there are suppliers who are already sending components to the company. As he reveals, that’s all we can expect from the MacBook of the future with foldable screen:
- Foldable screen: This MacBook will have a foldable screen, so the keyboard will disappear. It is rumored to have a 20.3-inch screen, but an 18.8-inch panel is also being considered. When folded, the first would be the size of a current 14-15 inch MacBook, while the second panel would be the size of a 13-14 inch MacBook.
- A panel without creases: Apple intends to offer a foldable screen in which the crease is not noticeable, completely smooth and wrinkle-free. This is something that conditioned the development of the product, since such technology is not yet available.
- Very high cost: offering a screen with no noticeable crease in addition to a high-quality visa causes the cost of the device to skyrocket, the panel alone is said to cost between $600 and $650 and the cost of the hinge is between 200 and 250.
- M5 chip: This supposed MacBook would have a chip from the M5 series, which Apple will probably present at the end of next year.
- Launch in 2026– This MacBook model is expected to be released sometime in 2026.
Does a MacBook with a foldable screen make sense?
Apple hasn’t launched any foldable devices yet, although if this information is true, this MacBook could be the first, although I don’t know if calling it MacBook would make sense. We are faced with a device which It might look like a large iPad folded in half.
I don’t know if a device like this makes much sense, after all. The keyboard is important in a laptop and with this MacBook with foldable screen we would have a virtual keyboard. Unless Apple releases some sort of accessory placed on the screen.
It certainly seems a very futuristic device, taking into account everything Kuo commented on. And maybe it could be some sort of hybrid device between an iPad and a MacBook. Even if it will not be aimed at all audiences, it will be easy could approach $4,000 if you use such expensive components. And all this while waiting for the future foldable iPhone.
