It is customary for Google to make Android its main banner during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. After two years of absence, the MWC 2022 again enjoys the grace and charm of the green android. From games to food stalls, walking down Android Avenue is quite the experience.
I have lost count of the times I have come to Mobile World Congress, it has been an unmissable event for me for more than ten years. Work is essential during these four (and even six) days that the event lasts, but it’s always time to relax with a little rest. And with a bit of fun, the Android space usually holds more than one surprise.
Experience the best of Android in a fun way
Google’s mobile operating system has always had a certain laid back air to it, the mascot itself exudes more fun than seriousness. Precisely, Google has always enhanced this charisma of its product during the days when mobile technology receives the most attention: the MWC. Since coming to the congress, first to Fira de Barcelona and now to Fira de L’Hospitalet, the Android area is usually my favorite.
Attending MWC and not walking down Android Avenue is not only almost a sin, it’s also impossible; not in vain the area occupies a very busy place among the most important pavilions of the event
Android has so many options that it is very difficult to know them all, even for someone like me who has been in the system since its inception. And that is precisely Google’s job at MWC: show everything your mobile OS can do. Nothing better to achieve this than to show your charms in a playful way.
Google is taking up the formula of the last events this year: it gives participants a passport with different spaces to visit to complete the “tour”; thus realizing an exclusive gift. Each information post delivers a sticker accompanied by a pin. In addition to promoting the collector’s spirit, Google manages that even those most unfamiliar with Android come to know its advantages.
How to ask things from Google Assistant, how devices connect through “Better together”, there are awesome demos that additionally reward you with a snack (making coffee with your eyes, for example), you can interact with the different Pixels to find out what Google includes in their phones and there’s even a pop-up art exhibit with a painter decorating part of the floor with his art. Everyday.
On Android Avenue you never know what you can find: this is one of the surprises that the MWC reserves each year
Having fun facilitates learning, learning is also used more, since it ends up being associated with the best memories of Mobile World Congress. With how stressful the days can be, having a free moment to walk down Android Avenue It’s a breath of fresh air and a whole motivation to continue
Collect and win prizes
The collection has always been the basis of the Android area. From the Android dolls that Google gave away with Ice Cream Sandwich (as well as ice cream honoring the name of the dessert) to the massive list of system-related pins that are scattered across the La Fira site. Getting them all has never been easy; As a result the price for doing so is more than telling the story.
This year, the brooch collection includes 27 different models inspired by Barcelona, its monuments and its art. All collectibles are high quality and colorful: make up a package that puts a different twist on the most serious MWC experience. It gets everyone in Congress.
Getting all the Pins isn’t exactly easy, although Google has eased the difficulty this year. The 27 models are scattered throughout Android Avenue and in various booths related to the operating system. Xiaomi delivers pins, OPPO, OnePlus… Even LG has two exclusive models. However, getting the whole collection means endless queues
Seeing executives in suits and ties swapping pins like they’re kids again has always been one of my most magical moments at every MWC.
At the time of writing this article I have not yet made the complete collection (and I doubt that I will). My colleague Amparo did it: not only did she have her passport stamped with all the pins, but she also received a gift set consisting of exclusive backpack and wireless chargerquite an incentive for those who appreciate that nice touch that Android has.
MWC is not MWC without Android
The relaxed experience one enjoys on Android Avenue is a great incentive to get up early each day, endure the traffic coming and going, join the races in search of the next event, and navigate the countless footsteps that end up accumulate in the legs, and on the back, throughout the day. There is no other space that brings together more participants throughout the MWC.
I am happy to enjoy another year of Android and with Android: it is a success that Google has been able to personalize the image of its operating system in a robot which, in addition to offering proximity to more technological, maintains a fun spirit that fits very well into any environment. Even in the most serious cases: the MWC is the best proof of this.
