With Gemini, Google's AI, deeply integrated into my Android mobileI changed the way I use the search giant's services. I no longer read my emails, Gemini is able to summarize them for me, in addition to being the perfect SMS and spam detector.
And the same thing is now happening with Google Drive. Can't find a document or file in your personal cloud? Would you like a summary or find out more about a specific file? It only takes one question for Gemini to access your Drive. There is no waste: that's all you can do.
Gemini + Drive: a very useful duo
Thanks to extensions, Gemini is able to integrate with different Google services. I already use it daily in Gmail, to summarize my professional emails, as well as in the Google Messages application to detect dangerous SMS messages (scams via this channel are the order of the day).
One of the latest arrivals is Gemini Workspace Extensionthe Google suite which combines “Google Documents”, “Gmail”, “Google Tasks” and of course “Google Drive”. In the cloud storage service, I have been accumulating all types of files for many years, including various opposition programs, university works and now some useful files for my work.
However, over time it became chaos, even though I organized the files into folders, but Gemini is there for this task. He is able to find a document by giving it some details: “find a document containing topic 6” – the AI will scan the cloud and return us the corresponding files.
And once I found the document, can I request a summaryanalyze content to understand main themes or key concepts, search for specific information, translate, and even answer related questions. Only with requests I make to the chatbot.
It's not perfect. Sometimes Gemini gets stuck with certain tasks, but it's about persisting. Having access to our unit, it works very well with these actions:
- Identify the language: Don't know what language one of your Drive documents is in? ask for it
- Analyze the content: Identify major themes and subthemes. Extract key concepts and keywords. Detect document structure (headings, subheadings, paragraphs, etc.). Identify citations and bibliographic references. Create an index or table of contents.
- RESUME: generate summaries of different lengths and levels of detail.
- Search information: search for specific keywords or phrases.
Look for patterns or relationships between concepts.
- Compare with other documents: compare the content with other materials you provide to me to find similarities and differences.
- Generate questions: create reading comprehension or discussion questions on the content.
- Contextualize: provide additional information on the historical, social or cultural context of the document.
- Translate: Translate text into other languages.
- Answer the questions: answer your questions about the content of the document.
- Explain the concepts: clarify complex concepts or ideas in the document.
- Give examples: Give examples or analogies to help you better understand the content.
- Generate related content: create new content related to the topic of the document, such as essays, articles or presentations.
From here, the limits we impose on ourselves: Gemini is a brutal assistant for Drive. Whether you have class notes, syllabi, work reports, critical feedback, or even a bookshelf with your favorite books, Google's AI is ready to help you if you have doubts about concepts or want to put things in order.
